Monday, Apr. 6 th p. 232, 233

Monday, April /6/15 Mon. L.T.: I can describe the unique abiotic and biotic factors at Mono Lake. DO NOW: Look at the picture on p. 25. Imagine yourself as a field scientist. What are some abiotic factors that you notice? Name at least 3. Thinking of these abiotic factors as resources, what populations of organisms do you think could live there? Why? ………………………………….. Reflection: Did I complete my section of the reading? Did I bring my expertise back to my partner and share with them? Did I listen to my partner’s expertise and fill out notes on my right side? Did I use the video as a resource to help fill in my right side? Did I write down at least 1 Q for abiotic and biotic factors at Mono Lake? 233 Title: Mono Lake Intro QsWhat is it like at Mono Lake? (abiotic factors) salty – waters receded so higher conc. of salt/minerals 2 islands QsWhat organisms live at Mono Lake? What are they like? Desert vegetation Migratory birds – depend on Mono Lake to cross desert during migration SNB Checks are due today!

Reading: Expert Groups Window Side: Experts on abiotic factors at Mono Lake (start where we left off and end at the next sub-heading: “Life in Mono Lake”) Cabinet Side: Experts on biotic factors at Mono Lake (start at sub-heading: “Life in Mono Lake” and end at sub- heading: “Humans in the Mono Lake Ecosystem”)

Jigsaw Experts on Abiotic Factors (window-side): share to your partners about what unique abiotic factors at Mono Lake. Make sure you talk about tufa towers, salinity, and water levels. Experts on Biotic Factors (cabinet-side): share to your partners about the populations at Mono Lake. Make sure you talk about how the organisms can survive there. Take notes (words and diagrams) to capture the abiotic and biotic factors at Mono Lake. Write down at least 1 Q you have for each section.

Video As you watch the video, add to your notes on your right side. Be on the lookout for anything that might answer your Qs.
