We Can Rejoice in the Lord Because We Have the Blessing of Unity (Philippians 2:1-4)

Reasons to Rejoice So far in our series of lessons we have discovered that we can rejoice in the Lord because: –We are saints (1:1) –God continually works in our lives (1:6) –We are partakers of grace (1:7) –Our love is abounding (1:9-11) –God works all things for our good (1:12-18) –We have a purpose in life (1:19-26) –We have an opportunity to grow in our faith (1:27-30)

We Have the Blessing of Unity The Attitude of Unity: What Unity Is The Attainment of Unity: How Unity Is Fostered The Attractiveness of Unity: What Unity Does

Why the Need for Unity? We need unity in life because it brings about a certain harmony, peace, comfort, and joy to our existence. Jesus Christ is the One who can bring about unity (Galatians 3:28) despise differences in: –Culture –Educational Attainment –Economic Standing –Political Beliefs –World Perspectives –Personal Thoughts –Personality Traits

The Attitude of Unity: What Unity Is The attitude of unity is described for us in verse (2) of our text. Unity involves: –The head (like-minded, one accord, and one mind)- (John 17:20,21; I Corinthians 1:10; Acts 1:14; 2:46; 4:24; 5:12) –The heart (same love; no partiality)- (I Timothy 5:21; James 2:1,9; 3:17)

The Attainment of Unity: How Unity Is Fostered Avoid Negative Actions (2:3) –No Selfish Ambition (Mark 9:33-35) –No Conceit (Romans 12:3) Embrace Positive Actions (2:3,4) –Be Humble (I Peter 5:5,6) –Consider Others Better than Self –Look Out for the Interests of Others
