Presentation transcript:

What is a biologist? A biologist is a person who studies the plant and animal life of a biome. What is a geologist? A geologist is a person who studies the Earth, like the structure of it, how it is made, the beginning of it, and its history.

Animals and plants of the savannah are located in the United States, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela, Australia, Europe, and South Africa. The typical plants of the savannah include the Prairie Blazingstar, Sweet Coneflower, Purple coneflower, Poison Ivy, Stinging Nettle, Senegal Gum Arabic, and the Jackalberry tree. The typical animals are the African elephant, the black-footed ferret, the giraffe, the lion, the ostrich, the rhinoceros, and the pronghorn. The African elephant and the giraffe are only commonly found in Africa. The Poison Ivy and the Stinging Nettle is poisonous. It causes a painful sting when it touches your bare skin, hence the name “Stinging Nettle”. The tallest plant that grows in the savannahs is called Bluestem grass, which can reach up to 11ft in height. The tallest animal in the savannahs is the giraffe, which is up to 3-4 meters high. The plants that are used for medicine are the Senegal Gum Arabic, which is used to make cream for skin inflammations. It is also used for coughs, sore throats, and eyewash. A plant that produces fruit is the Jackalberry tree, which produces fruit that is oval, almost round and is about an inch long in diameter. It is yellow or yellow-green in color and beer and brandy is brewed from it. Jackalberry Tree

There are no earthquake/fault lines or volcanoes in the savannahs, because it is basically just flat land. There haven’t been any large scale natural disasters caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or tidal waves in the area of the savannahs. Of course, there are no mountains in the savannah and there are no mineral or oil deposits in the savannahs either.

What is an environmentalist? An environmentalist studies the environment of a biome. What is a climatologist? A climatologist is a person who studies the weather and climate in a biome.

Savannahs across the world have many fires during the summer because they have limited water supply. Also, huge areas of the savannah are lost to the Sahara desert every year because of farming and overgrazing and farmers use the land for cattle. There aren’t really any natural disasters, just wind storms and violent T-storms. People are creating controlled burning programs to keep worse fires from developing. The government might be raising money to help the wildlife. The Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area together have been named a World Heritage site, and the Serengeti is one of the most famous national parks of the world. There aren’t really any lakes of rivers, just watering holes.

The average temperature for the Savannah is -40 to 70 F. The Savannah usually gets inches per year and there is a rainy season. The Savannah’s seasons are a rainy season and a drought season. There aren’t any mountains or volcanoes, mainly just plains. Yes because many animals are only active during the rainy season because of drought. The latitudes that they fall between is the middle latitudes. There isn’t really a growing season because grass.

Other typical plants of the savannah are the Box Elder Tree, Baobab, Candelabra Tree, Elephant Grass, Jarrah Tree, Kangaroo Paw, Manketti Tree, River Bushwillow, Umbrella Thorn Acacia, and Whistling Thorn. Other typical animals of the savannah are the African Wild Dog, the Black Mamba, the Caracal, the Chacma Baboon, the Egyptian Mongoose, the Emu, the Zebra, the Koala Bear, Nigreceps Ants, and Nile Crocodile.
