TWR Kenya Retreat Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus (5) Matthew 6:13

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus God provides for us – he gives us our daily bread God pardons us – when we say ‘sorry’, he forgives God protects us – ‘lead us not into temptation’ we ask God to do for us what we are unable to do he allows them to happen

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus cf. Jesus in Matthew 4 he was led by the Spirit, but tempted by Satan Greek word – 4 t’s difference between a ‘test’ and a ‘temptation’ we need God to rescue us Jesus fully understands

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus it reveals what is inside us it refocuses our values it reinforces our will it reminds others of grace ‘… deliver us from the evil one’ the devil is our adversary

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus we don’t treat the enemy with kid gloves the devil is on a leash God delivers his people cf. John 17:15 tactics of the archenemy Jesus is our advocate we are invincible in Christ

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus You can’t stop a bird choosing to land upon your head … but you can stop it making its nest there!

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus compare the beginning and the ending Everest of intercession a ‘psychology of prayer’ think big thoughts re God God is sovereign – ‘yours is the kingdom’

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus he runs the entire show God is powerful – ‘yours is the power’ he is a hands-on God he knows everything and he can do anything cf. Ephesians 3:20-21

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus You are coming to a king, Large petitions you can bring; For his grace and power are such – None can ever ask too much!

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus God is majestic – ‘yours is the glory’ a sparkling splendour he is a God of astonishing brilliance God is eternal – ‘forever’ he’s always been around

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see: O Thou who changest not, Abide with me.

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus with God, every day is today cf. Hebrews 13:8 God never has an ‘off’ day We’re ready for the road takes us back to basics ‘A precious jewel...’ [Augustine] cf. 1 Chronicles 29:11

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus ‘Amen’ – yes, yes, Lord! he is the Amen God ‘He who has learned to pray has learned the greatest secret of a holy and happy life.’ [W Law] making prayer your second language

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus prayer is not … bothering God bargaining with God borrowing from God burdening God prayer is blessing God he doesn’t keep office hours

Say ‘Amen’ to Jesus Yea, Amen! Let all adore thee, High on thine eternal throne; Saviour, take the power and glory, Claim the kingdom for thine own. O, come quickly! Alleluia! Come, Lord, come!

‘… and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one; for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
