Math Vocabulary

Integer - any of the natural numbers, the negatives of these numbers, or zero

Rational Number - a number that can be expressed as an integer or the quotient of an integer divided by a nonzero integer

Scientific Notation - a widely used floating-point system in which numbers are expressed as products consisting of a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by an appropriate power of 10

Perfect Square - an integer (as 9 or 36) whose square root is an integer

Irrational Numbers - a number that can be expressed as an infinite decimal with no set of consecutive digits repeating itself indefinitely and that cannot be expressed as the quotient of two integers

Real Numbers - a number that has no imaginary part

Density Property - It means we can always find a real number between any two real numbers

Adjacent Angles – angles that have a common ray coming out of the vertex going between two

Coefficient - any of the factors of a product considered in relation to a specific factor; especially : a constant factor of a term as distinguished from a variable

Distance Formula - the formula, which is used to find the distance between two points

Domain - the set of values of the independent variable for which a function is denied

Hypotenuse - the longest side of a right triangle, opposite of the right angle

Legs of a right Triangle -the sides adjacent to the right angle

Range - the difference between the least and greatest values of an attribute or of the variable of a frequency distribution

Slope - the acute angle made by a meridional ray with the axis in a symmetrical optical system

Prism - a polyhedron with two polygonal faces lying in parallel planes and with the other faces parallelograms

Scatter Plot - a two-dimensional graph in rectangular coordinates consisting of points whose coordinates represent values of two variables under study

Slope Intercept Form - the equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line and b is its y- intercept
