They are normally know as the Ku Klux Klan. What are night men?

The Ku Klux Klan became symbols of terror in America during the first three decades of the twentieth century. (1915). The Klan spread all over the nation in the 1920s. Their goal was to scare black people into staying “in their place”

 This picture shows men and women Ku Klux Klan members in a parade in 1928.

 The Ku Klux Klan was started in 1866 as a way for people to protest against equality for black people after the Civil War.  Common activities were cross burnings, parades, rallies, and marches.  Sometimes they became more violent as with lynching and bombings.  The Klan was at its high peak in the late 1920’s with close to 4 million members.  It still exists in places today, but with a membership nearly around 6,000.
