NASLOV PREDAVANJA Predavatelj

28 national (or regional for Belgium) associations representing books (and learned journals) publishers in the EU and EEA Main task – representing publishers on EU files (Directives, regulations) such as VAT or copyright To get the politicians and officials to support our case, it is essential that they better understand the role of publishers and of a publishing house FEP has developed a series of activities to make clear that publishers are an indispensable link in the book chain - Author-Publisher dialogues - Get Caught Reading - Book chain : real people, real jobs FEP is also working with EBF and EWC, the booksellers and the authors, to organise the European Union Prize for Literature Federation of European Publishers SUBTITLE OF SPREAD

The original Get Caught Reading is an American campaign to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. "Get Caught Reading" helps spread the powerful message that reading is both a real joy and the gateway to a world of opportunities. FEP organised a first campaign in 2005, with an exhibition at the European Parliament. FEP re-launched the campaign in January Members of the European Parliament, Members of the European Commission, Ministers for Culture and other personalities have been invited to take their favourite book and send us a photograph of them reading it, with a text explaining why they have chosen that book and why reading is so important in their life. Get Caught Reading SUBTITLE OF SPREAD

The exhibition will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels between 17th-20th June 2013, with an official launch on the 18 th. A book will be published at the end of the year, gathering the pictures of all the participants. More than 150 personalities have shared their passion for reading so far- including the President of the European Parliament, Mr Martin Schulz, the President of the European Commission, Mr Jose Manuel Barroso, and Mr Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. FEP has invited authors and their publishers to discuss the challenges facing the publishing sector, and the mutual opportunities and benefits brought by the author-publisher relationship, including the way in which this helps to nurture new talent, encourage creativity and ensure quality. This event seeks to foster a better understanding of the unique and important role of the author- publisher relationship so that, together, we can continue to support a culturally rich and diverse Europe. This third edition will take place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, on Tuesday 10th September 2013, under the patronage of MEP Marielle Gallo. Two couples author-publisher, a Polish one and a French one, will talk about the mutual opportunities and benefits brought by the author- publisher relationship. For Poland, the author is Paweł Huelle and his editor Jerzy Illg (Publishing House Znak) For France, the author is Emmanuel Carrère and his publisher Paul Otchakovsky-Laurens (Editions POL). FEP will issue a special newsletter four times a year introducing the book chain’s jobs. We want to show that behind the book chain, there are real people, and real jobs. The book chain- real people, real jobs SUBTITLE OF SPREAD This newsletter will present a portrait of a specific profession- a session of Q&As offering a new perspective on those people who invest, create, manage creativity and innovate. They will reply to the following questions: -Describe your job in 100 words -What did you want to do when you were 5 years-old? -Can you describe a typical day? -What would happen to the book if you were not there? -What is the most exciting/marking thing that happened to you?

The aim of the European Prize for Literature is to put the spotlight on the creativity and diverse wealth of Europe’s contemporary literature in the field of fiction, to promote the circulation of literature within Europe and encourage greater interest in non-national literary works. The Prize is financed by the Culture Programme of the European Union whose objective is to achieve three main goals: to promote cross-border mobility of those working in the cultural sector; to encourage the transnational circulation of cultural and artistic output; and to foster intercultural dialogue. As the consortium selected by the Commission to coordinate the initiative, the European Booksellers Federation (EBF), the European Writers' Council (EWC) and the Federation of European Publishers (FEP) are jointly responsible for the setting up of the national juries and the practical organisation of the awards ceremony.
