Updates Changes that will impact our bottom line!

Combined Minimum Score for SATP  The State Board adopted an average scale score of 646 as the combined minimum score needed to meet the requirements for SBE 3803(3). This combined minimum score is an additional option available for students enrolled during the school year. Students may also use options available under Policies 3803(2) and 3804 to meet graduation requirements.

Combined Minimum Score for SATP  This combined score is an average of a student’s four end-of-course assessments. For example, if a student enrolled in has earned scale scores of 640, 644, 650, and 650 on the four assessments, then the student’s average score for the four assessments is 646 (2584 divided by 4), and the student meets the combined minimum score graduation option.

Advanced Placement in MS  This is the first year in which acceleration will be included in the accountability model. Fewer students participated in AP courses in 2014 than in 2009 in the state. There are currently 35 AP courses that Mississippi high schools may choose to offer. Here in Greenville, we currently offer 13.

Spring 2015 ACT Results  Last year was the first year that the ACT was administered to all high school juniors. Overall, the 29,819 students who were tested had a composite score of 17.6, with 9% meeting all four ACT benchmark scores. ACT research has shown that taking specific courses (Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Mathematics, including Algebra II and beyond) in high school substantially increases students' readiness for college level and workforce training programs.

MS CCR Standards  Over 1,300 people visited the site in a 3- month period, providing 8,521 points of feedback. About 49% of those who weighed in on the standards were teachers, about 17% were parents, 15% were administrators or school district staff, and about 6% represented the community at-large. 112 school districts were represented in the comments. More than 90% of the participants approved of the learning goals for students.

MS CCR Standards  Of the 10% of respondents who indicated they would like to see some sort of change in one or more of the standards, most of the suggested changes wanted one or more of the standards moved to a different grade level. No one suggested removing a standard. The ELA standards that received the most feedback were in Kindergarten, with most wanting some standards moved to a higher grade. The math standards that received the most feedback were in Algebra I, with requests to either move certain standards to another grade or rewrite the standard.
