Measurement Systems English System Metric System English System uses yards, feet, inches, and fractions. Metric System uses meters, decimeters, centimeters, and millimeters.
Metric System Based on the number 10. Smallest lines are millimeters. Arrow is pointing to ? 128 millimeters
Metric System Millimeters are usually the smaller lines. 10 millimeters = 1 centimeter 10 centimeters = 1 decimeter 10 decimeters = 1 meter 1000 meters = 1 kilometer

Fractional Inches First, each inch is broken in half. Then each of those sections are halved. Eighths Quarters Sixteenths Halves 1 16 ths

English System Tape measures have helpful color-coded numbers for easier layout. Every foot is highlighted with a black symbol. Every 16-inch increment is boxed in red
English System Red numbers relate to foot markings to the left. e.g., 15 inches is also 1′- 3″. Black triangles, at increments of 19.2 inches, are used in a similar fashion as the red 16-inch marks in layout work.
