The European approach to Service Standardization Andreea Gulacsi Programme Manager Services CEN ASEAN Regional Workshop on Standards in Services 12 & 13 July 2004, Singapore

Background Services market in the EU (70% of GDP and employment in EU); Service standardization not completely new to CEN (numerous service aspects already exist in available standards); Standardization exclusively in services currently tentative and ad-hoc; Standards concerning the service sector need to expand.

Achievements so far Technical Committees: –Maintenance Services (CEN/TC 319) –Transportation Services (CEN/TC 320) –Cleaning Services (CEN/TC 328) –Tourism Services (CEN/TC 329) –Postal Services (CEN/TC 331) –Facility Management Services (CEN/TC 348)

Plan of Action 2003 August 2003: –Public enquiry launched by CEN/CMC on the web ( October 2003: –EC Programming Mandate M/340 in the field of services addressed to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI; November 2003: –CEN Interim Report presented on the results received on the enquiry; December 2003: –Approval of the mandate by CEN in the field of services.
