Southside Elementary School 5 th Grade Community Service Projects

Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collections Brayden and Brendan Rash deposit pop tabs that they collected for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Fifth grade students participated in this school wide community service project, beginning in the month of August.

Southside Elementary Beautification In the fall, the 5 th grade students in Mrs. Jones’ social studies classes worked with community member, Tim McNamee, to plant tulips and other vegetation around the school, as part of a class community service, beautification project.

Samaritan’s Purse “Build a School” At Southside, an important aspect of our school culture is the Bee Attitude--Be Caring. Mrs. Jones' fifth grade social studies students exhibited this character trait in a unique way. Students donated their extra snack and spending money to help build a school in a third-world country. Student donations will be sent to the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. Having surpassed their $200 goal, Mrs. Jones’ social studies students issued a challenge to other fifth grade classes in the state to help provide the opportunity for an education to those children less fortunate.

Relay for Life “Hat Day” On May 16, 2014, 5 th grade students, along with other Southside students donated $1 each to Relay for Life. With this donation, students were allowed to wear a hat to school for the day.
