Douglas Mawson Institute of Technology - Cluster Server Initiative -

- Introduction - Douglas Mawson Institute of Technology is an educational leader in applied design and technology. With these ideals in place we have undertaken a project to show to the IT community that DMIT is proactive in its approach to student education. By entering the Top500 supercomputer listing DMIT would demonstrate its dedication to achieving the high standards it sets.

- Project Team - Senior Lecturer – Rob Cook Project Management –Jurgen Klus –Matthew Murton

- Project Team - Project Team Leader –Glenn Higgins Assistant –Adam Sandow

Project Stage 1 prototyping

- Development of Stage 1 - Requirements Definition Design Implementation System test Prototyping Negotiate Stage 2

- Project Deliverables - Produce documentation detailing the installation and implementation of a four-node cluster To demonstrate the feasibility of successfully establishing a OSCAR four-node cluster using Compaq EVO PC’s

- Cluster Software - Top 500 poll results: Oscar 23% Score 15% Scyld 12% MSC.Linux 12% NPACI Rocks 8% SCE 6% Other 24%

- OSCAR - What does it do? –OSCAR is a cluster software packaging utility –Automatically configures software components –Designed to work universally on PCs (support what Linux supports) What will it do in the future? –Maintain cluster information database –Work as an interface not just for installation, but also for maintenance –Accelerate software package integration into clusters

Project Stage 2 cluster expansion

- Development of Stage 2 - Establishing connectivity to 20 nodes Investigation of GUI based tools Installation of performance tools Investigating suitable stress testing software Implementing stress testing software Negotiate Stage 3

- Conclusion - The project team has completed Stage 1 successfully All objectives have been met on time The project team confident of moving into Stage 2 Awaiting further approval

Thank you Cluster Project Team
