Green Cleaning Cost Comparison Group Activity

You are contacted by a company that has eco-friendly cleaners. They have obtained certifications from some of the most stringent entities and one of your facilities already uses these cleaners. They are very happy with them and endorse them 100%. You approach a facilities manager that oversees the cleaning crew for several other buildings. The cleaning crew and facilities manager tried the products and would like to switch, but it will depend on cost. The procurement manager is also concerned about cost. The only thing that will move the switch forward is a cost comparison. What do you need to do?

 Collect Data for Cost Comparison List of Current Products Used List of Proposed Products Cost per unit (i.e. cost per gallon) of each Dilution Factors/Ratios  Additional Considerations for Cost Comparison Select the quantities you are going to compare: gallons, spray bottles, mop buckets Identify conversion factors if needed: – 1 gallon = ?? Ounces – 1 mop bucket = ?? Gallons – 1 spray bottle = ?? Ounces Some companies will already have these calculated

 Example: Glass Cleaner – 1 gallon of concentrated cleaner costs $16.00 – Dilution Ratio is 2 oz/1 gallon – How many 32 oz spray bottles does this fill? – What is the cost per spray bottle 1 gallon x 128 oz = 64 gallons of diluted cleaner 2oz 64 gallons cleaner x 128 oz x 1 spray bottle = 256 spray bottles 1 gal 32 oz Cost per spray bottle = $16.00/ 256 = $ 0.06
