DIRECTOR’S STYLE

AUTEUR Auteur- a complete filmmaker Conceives the idea for the story, writes the script or the screenplay, and then carefully supervises every step in the filmmaking process, from casting to editing Given this, a film’s style can also be called the director’s style Many elements of a film can be looked at to determine the director’s style

Subject matter No other element reveals more about a director’s style than the choice of subject matter Common themes running through films can be seen as style

Cinematography Visual composition can be indicative of style: arrangement of people in the frame, camera angles, point of view, slow or fast motion, color effects, distorting lenses, etc. Use of color, whether it is sharp or diffused, is also important

Others Other elements that can considered when evaluating a director’s style are: Editing Setting and set design Sound and score Casting Narrative structure
