Visit Gambia! Gambia is a small country in West Africa. It is situated along the River Gambia, surrounded by Senegal The population of Gambia is 1.5 million It was a British colony until 1965 90% of the population are Muslim

Tourist Attractions Physical Attractions Human Attractions Beaches – Gambia has nice golden beaches to relax on by the Atlantic ocean Climate – the weather in Gambia is hot all year round, between 30 and 35 degrees centigrade Human Attractions Hotels – Gambia boasts a wide range of high quality hotels with swimming pools Safari – There are several safari parks in Gambia where you can take a ride in a jeep and see some of the wild animals which call Gambia their home

Problems Despite being a very popular tourist destination, Gambia does have its problems, many of which are caused by the tourists themselves. When tourists visit Gambia they often wear little clothing in the hot climate. This offends many Gambians as it is against their Muslim beliefs Much of the money which is spent by tourists in Gambia is taken by the foreign people who own the hotels, who choose to import their food rather than buy it from the locals

Solutions? There are many different things tourists and hotel owners can do to resolve Gambia’s tourism related problems Community tourism – If tourists chose to stay with local tribes they could learn about the Gambian way of life and would therefore be less likely to offend the Gambian locals Sustainable tourism – If hotel owners bought their food from local farmers then they would be investing their money in the local community and giving the Gambian locals a fair deal
