About St. Patrick’s Day St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated each year on March 17 th. We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in honor of Saint Patrick who died on March 17, 461. Saint Patrick was important because he established 300 churches in Ireland and increased the popularity of Christianity.

Symbols of St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock – The Shamrock is a symbol of St. Patrick’s Day because they are found all over the country of Ireland. 4 Leaf Clover – Four leaf clovers are very hard to find. If you find one you will have good luck!

Leprechauns – Leprechauns are little men that dress like shoemakers. The Leprechauns are paid with gold coins. The gold coins are then added to a large pot. If you catch a Leprechaun they must show you where they hid the pot of gold. Symbols of St. Patrick’s Day

Green – People wear green on St. Patrick's day because green is the color of Shamrocks and spring. If you are not wearing green, you will be pinched! Corned Beef and Cabbage – To celebrate the holiday many people eat corned beef and cabbage. Symbols of St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick and Snakes It is said that Saint Patrick got rid of all the snakes in Ireland. It is said that St. Patrick stood on a mountain top and raised a wooden stick in the air to get rid of the snakes. To this day there are no snakes in Ireland.
