SIBERIAN TIGER BY: NIKHIL

APPEARANCE Siberian tigers adapt to the environment with thick fur and layer of fat along belly and flanks. It allows it to live in cold temperatures. The siberian tiger's stripes acts like a camouflage within dense long grass vegetation. Since the land is covered in snow where the tigers live, siberian tigers have much paler stripes than other tiger species.

HABITAT The Siberian tiger can be found in uninhabited mountain forests of the Amur Basin to Siberia, and live in coniferous, scrub oak, and birch woodlands of eastern Russia. There are few tigers found in northeastern China and northern North Korea. Tigers can live in a variety of habitats. They do need excellent cover to be able to ambush or stalk their prey, and are therefore usually found in forested areas. They live taiga and mountain conifer forests.Tigers live alone in aggressively scent marked large territories to keep rivals away.

How many Siberian tiger Siberian (or Amur) tigers are the world's largest cats. They live primarily in eastern Russia's birch forests, though some exist in China and North Korea. There are an estimated 400 to 500 Siberian tigers living in the wild, and recent studies suggest that these numbers are stable. Though their northern climate is far harsher than those of other tigers, these animals have some advantages. Northern forests offer the lowest human density of any tiger habitat, and the most complete ecosystem. The vast woodlands also allow tigers far more room to roam, as Russia's timber industry is currently less extensive than that of many other countries.

CHARACTERISTICS The Siberian tiger is reddish-rusty or rusty-yellow in colour, with narrow black transverse stripes. The body length is not less than 150 cm (60 in), condylobasal length of skull 250 mm (10 in), zygomatic width 180 mm (7 in), and length of upper carnassial tooth over 26 mm (1 in) long. It has an extended supple body standing on rather short legs with a fairly long tail.[4] It is typically 5–10 cm (2–4 in) taller than the Bengal tiger, which is about 107–110 cm (42–43 in) tall.[5]

FOOD Diet: Over much of the tiger's broad geographic range, wild pig, wild cattle and several species of deer are its major prey. All prey are forest or grassland ungulates that range in size from 65 to 2,000 pounds (30-900 kg). Typically, wild tigers gorge themselves on fresh kills, and can eat as much as 40 pounds (18 kg) of meat at one time. The tiger will not eat again for several days
