An oxygen blender is being used to deliver 40% oxygen through a jet nebulizer for humidification to a child. How should a respiratory therapist set the jet nebulizer in this situation? The jet nebulizer must be set to the 100% setting. The jet nebulizer must be set at the same FIO2 as the blender. Setting the jet nebulizer at a FIO2 of 0.40 or less is acceptable The jet nebulizer can be adjusted to an FIO2 setting greater than 0.70.

A physician has ordered an FIO2 of 0 A physician has ordered an FIO2 of 0.40 by oxyhood and blender for an infant. When analyzing the oxygen concentration, a respiratory therapist notes the FIO2 is 0.30, and the flowmeter is set at 10 L/min. The nebulizer’s entrainment port is set at 50% and the blender is set at an FIO2 of 0.40. To correct the problem, the therapist should: Increase the flowmeter to 12 L/min Set the blender FIO2 to 1.0 Replace the blender and nebulizer system Set the nebulizer’s entrainment port to 100%

With an FIO2 of 0.70, a 27-week gestational age neonate who weights 950 g has the following umbilical artery blood gas results: pH 7.38 PaCO2 42 torr PaO2 38 torr HCO3 24 mEq/L BE -2 mEq/L A physician has decided to intubate the infant. Which of the following should a respiratory therapist recommend to continuously monitor the infant’s oxygenation? Pulse oximetry Arterial blood gas anaylsis Capillary blood gas anaylsis An umbilical artery catheter

An infant in an oxyhood is receiving 24% oxygen by a large volume nebulizer at a flow of 10 L/min. The infant is restless. The SpO2 is 97%. To clam the infant, a respiratory therapist should: Set the FIO2 to 0.28 Increase the flow to 12 L/min Use more connecting tubing Replace the nebulizer with a blender
