PARENT EXPECTATIONS MEETING YEAR 5

COMMUNICATION Communicating - be honest and open with staff. We want to work together to solve any issues, we are a team. Supporting the school rules. Supporting staff in dealing with any behaviour issues.

WEBSITE / SOCIAL MEDIA Please look at the website regularly as we are always adding photos and bits of information. We will add any letters that come out on here too. In the next month we aim to be on Facebook & Twitter too to keep you up to date.

PREPARATION FOR THE SCHOOL DAY Ensuring that children arrive at school on time. Ensuring that children come in as calmly as possible for the day ahead. Ensuring that children have had a breakfast before getting to school (unless eating at breakfast club). Ensuring that children come to school with the equipment that they need. Ensuring that if children have a pencil case, that they only bring the equipment that is needed.

ADMINISTRATION Putting any money in the right place – outside the office. The only money to come into the classroom should be the snack money on a Monday morning. Writing the teacher a quick note if there is a change to your child’s routine, so that it can then be passed to the office if needs be. Checking lost property after school (outside year 1) if children have lost anything. Encouraging pupils (in years 4, 5 & 6) to look after and respect their lockers and keys.

LUNCH AND SNACKS Supplying water for your children to drink in a closed container. Not including anything containing nuts in their children’s pack lunch. Ensuring that the pack lunch provided is healthy.

UNIFORM Encouraging children to look after their uniform and follow the guidelines set out in the school brochure. Ensuring that children are wearing the correct uniform. Ensuring that all items of clothing are clearly named. Ensuring that pupils have the correct dress for PE, including swimming. The expectation is: a Hopton PE t-shirt, shorts and plimsolls for indoor PE and a Hopton PE t-shirt, jogging bottoms/tracksuit and trainers for outdoor PE. A letter will go out if the child does not have their kit 3 times in a term.

HOMEWORK Helping children with any homework they have. Encouraging children to hand homework in on time. Ensuring that children are reading on a regular basis (at least once a day for 20 minutes). Homework will be given out on a Wednesday and handed in on a Monday. This will include: Mathletics, Big Talk, Home Learning Grid, spellings and Reading.

LEARNING Just a reminder that there is a ‘Learning meeting’ on the 23 rd September. This is a very important meeting for you to find out more about how your child learns at school and it is the introduction to the ‘Learning School’.
