1-4 Tools and procedures  Science tools: computer, electronic balances, microscope, telescope  Scientists use a common system of measurement because  they need to replicate each other’s experiment  and its based on multiples of 10

Data/ Graphs/ Information  When scientists collect data – they are trying to figure out what changed or stayed the same  Graphs- help you see the pattern faster  Once, you see the pattern or draw a conclusion, it is no longer data, IT IS INFORMATION….

Microscopes  Microscopes- basic tools of science  Light microscopes- produce magnified images by focusing visible light  Compound light microscopes use 2 lenses (hence the name compound)  Electron microscopes – produce images by focusing beams of electrons

Studying Cells  Cell culture: grow a layer of cells in a lab to study how they behave  Cell fractionation: special blender used to break open cells, then a centrifuge spins the cells, and different layers appear….then you extract the layer you want
