STOCK MARKET PROJECT VSE Specifics

Do I have to do this project by myself?  No. You may pick ONE person to work with you or you may work alone.

How many stocks do I have to buy?  A minimum of ten for a 90. Buy more to earn a higher grade.  You have 6 weeks to do this—it will be easy.

Do I have a minimum amount I need to spend?  You cannot buy penny stocks— nothing under $2 per share  You should invest most of your $100,000—remember there is a fee ($10) for every transaction so leave yourself some money to trade and sell later.

Are there certain stocks I have to buy?  No, except for two. You must buy stock in two corporations from which you currently frequently buy and your partner does also if you chose a partner.

Do I have to buy stocks or can I buy bonds?  For the project, stick with stocks.  NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX.

How do I make money?  After you have purchased your stock, sell it when the price is higher than you paid for it. There is a fee for selling stocks also. You will need to earn a profit of at least $20 to be ahead. Dividends will not help you for this project.

 Example: If you bought Exxon stock for $100 per share and it is up to $110 per share, you could sell it and make a profit of $10 per share  200 shares X $10 = $2,000 profit

 BUY LOW  SELL HIGH

Do I have to do anything on paper?  YES! You will be tracking 5 of your initial stocks for the 6 weeks of the project. You must have the 5 stocks purchased by the end of class on Friday. You will be required to write down the closing price and graph it as well. You must turn in your project in a folder.

Do I have to log on everyday?  No. But, if you want to see how much you can make from your $100,000, you are free to trade and sell as much as you’d like.

Do I have to sell my stocks?  YES. I can track all of your transactions. You will need to sell at least 10 times in the next 4 weeks for a 90. Sell more for to earn a higher grade. Sells made on this last day will not count. Since you are selling, you will need to invest that profit into more corporations--buy more stock. Do not just hold on to your money. For this project that is wasted money– or inefficient.

How will this project be graded?  A large portion will be on your paper work—90%.  The next part is subjective. I will give a grade based on effort, logins and transactions. You will get one period per week in the lab.  You will NOT be graded on your profit or loss--  Although the winner will get a prize of some type.
