Warm-Up Questions 1. Identify- What is a primary source? What is a secondary source? (DOK 1) 2. Assess- Why would a Primary source help you study an era in history? (DOK 3) Analyze- examine in detail the construction and structure of something to determine the importance of the contents.

As a group, you will try to figure out information about some historic photographs. You will write your findings into your notebook. For each photo, relate the answers to the following questions in complete sentences: 1. Who took the picture and when? 2. Why was the photograph taken? 3. Make a list of objects in the photo, what is the background? 4.Describe the action (If any) in the photo 5. What details give you the most information? 6. What impact would this photo have on viewers in the past when they first saw it? 7. What questions do you have about this photo? 8. What did this photo make you think about? 9. Why do you think this photo is famous?

Prehistory- is the period in history before writing was invented. Since scientists cannot read anything from this era, they have to study artifacts and objects. Archeologists are scientists that examine objects to learn about past peoples and cultures If there is no written history, stories are passed down by word of mouth. These are called Oral Traditions.
