Lesson 1.6

Quick Write What choices do you make at school? Think about all of the choices you can make in a school day. Brainstorm the types of choices you make at school and the types of consequences you can face as a result of your choice. What was the lesson learned?

Word Wall Vocab. Under vocabulary tab in your binder place your word wall handout, and write the following definition. Sensory Details: language that appeals to the five senses-taste, touch, see, smell, hear. Figurative Language: language used in an imaginative way to express ideas that are not literally true.

Bad Boy (p.22) As a class, we will read the memoir, “Bad Boy” and complete the graphic organizer on page 26 using Incident, Response, and Reflection. While you are reading, you will highlight the figurative language and sensory details within the text.

Observations & Feelings (p.26) Use the graphic organizer to identify the incident and respond and reflect to the text. What happened in the story? What character traits did you notice? What evidence did you use from the text?

Picture Activity Look at the pictures on the upcoming slides, and write sentences, phrases, and words to describe the picture and prompt using figurative language and sensory details.
