The Building of the Titanic  Conceived idea to build the ship in 1907  It took 3 years to build  It took 3000 people to build it

Specs of the Ship  9 decks  882 feet long  Height 175 feet  3,500 passengers and crew  20 boilers and 162 furnaces  Top speed 24 knots  4 smokestacks - 22 feet wide, 6 stories high (one was just decorative)  Largest ship of its of era  Weight 46,000 tons  It took 3 years to build

The Maiden Voyage  Departed from  South Hampton, England on April 10, 1912  Projected to arrival  New York City  April 17, 1912

Captain Edward Smith  January 27, 1850  April  He was born in England

Passenger survival Rate

When the Titanic hit the Iceberg 22 11:40 P.M. April 14, 1912 The hull hole was feet long 7 tons per second rushed water into the hull It sank in 3 hours

1 st Class 329 passengers were onboard and 199 survived 173 men were onboard and 54 survived 151 women were onboard and 141 survived 5 children were onboard and 4 survived

2nd Class 285 passengers were onboard and 119 survived 157 men were onboard and 15 survived 106 women were onboard and 82 survived 22 children were onboard and 22 survived.

3rd Class 710 passengers were onboard and 174 survived 486 men were onboard and 69 survived 148 women were onboard and 82 survived 76 children were onboard and 23 survived

Crew 899 passengers were onboard and 214 survived 876 men were onboard and 194 survived 23 women were onboard and 20 survived

Total Survival Rate In the lifeboats  Total women who survived was 305  Total men who survived was 138  Total children who survived was 49 In the water  Only one person survived the cold water  His name was Charles Joughin  He was the ship baker

Resting Place 350 miles southeast of Newfoundland, Canada 2.3 miles below the ocean surface

To the Rescue The Titanic passengers were rescued by the cargo ship Carpathia on April 15, passengers and crew survived
