DO NOW - WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT CAN MAKE A PERSON JEALOUS ? Chapter 6 : Lesson 2

Chapter 6 – Lesson 2 We live out the 9 th Commandment.  God stated the 9th Commandment, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.”  Temptation is the attraction to choose sin. Temptation in itself IS NOT a sin.  to covet is to wrongly desire someone or something. The 9 th commandment obliges us to become more aware of our gift of human sexuality.

Chapter 6 – Lesson 2 The 9 th commandment calls us to protect our desires by: keeping our desires good and honorable. respecting and protecting the fidelity of marriage. practicing temperance, moderating the attraction of pleasure and bringing our desires into balance. trusting in God and valuing our human sexuality. practicing chastity and modesty, which means thinking, speaking, acting, and dressing in a respectful way. knowing and following God’s will. avoiding thoughts and feelings that lead us away from God’s commandments. keeping our hearts focused on God.

Chapter 6 – Lesson 2 We live out the 10th Commandment.  “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or goods.”  The 10 th commandment relates to the 7 th commandment because it deals with the property of others.  We should thank God for what we have, to work for what we need, and to help others to have what they need.  We should not get caught up in wanting things unnecessarily. Greed is an excessive desire to have or own things.  Greedy people want more and more things that they don’t really need.  In living out the 10 th commandment we learn that God’s love is more important than money or success.  We restrain ourselves from being envious of others.

Chapter 6 – Lesson 2  Envy is a feeling of sadness when someone else has the things we want for ourselves.  Envy can lead us to take what belongs to someone else.  The 10 th commandment reminds us to become poor in spirit, depending on God and making God more important than anyone or anything else in our life.
