Learning objectives: 1.To be able to describe geocentric and heliocentric models. 2.To be able to explain how scientists use waves to find out information of the universe.

The Pyramid of Kukulcan twice a year creates a giant shadow that looks like a snake. This happens of the 2 days in a year when the length of night is the same as length of daylight.

Geocentric Model: What were the early beliefs about the model of the solar system? Heliocentric Model: Nicolas Copernicus came up with this model. The church did not like this model. Why?

 What is the heliocentric model?  Why did the church not agree with the heliocentric model?  How did the telescope prove that Copernicus was right?  What did Galileo notice about the moons of Jupiter? What did this make him realise?

 The telescope was invented in the 16 th century.  How did this discovery improve our knowledge of the universe?

As telescopes improved, more discoveries were made, including the planets URANUS, NEPTUNE AND PLUTO.
