TSG-S PMT Evolution Workshop – Seoul, Korea Page 6 3GPP2 Vision Document – SC.R v1.0 Overview -  Market needs drive the long-term evolution of wireless networks including competitive costs for capital expenditures and operating costs per byte  New concepts and technologies emerge out of research and are subjected to the scrutiny of both the wireless industry and the market  The vision is based on future-proof concepts and technologies that are likely to succeed in the market place  Shared Vision Document with ITU-T Special Study Group The 3GPP2 Vision:  looks beyond what is described in the 3GPP2 Evolution document  attempts to provide guidance to 3GPP2 on new capabilities, features, and interoperability requirements  provides an evolution path for the core network and RAN elements including new interfaces and technologies  may be considered or incorporated into the 3GPP2 Evolution plan Under investigation  Multi-carrier configurations for further increases in data rates  MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) Antenna  Comprehensive End-to-End QoS  Migration to IPv6  IP Based Radio Access Signaling and Distributed Mobility Management  Development of advanced applications based on enablers such as geo-location, broadcast/multicast, VoIP, etc.  Seamless session mobility across access domains  Security and network/service enhancement to improve application offerings

TSG-S PMT Evolution Workshop – Seoul, Korea Page 7 S.R v2.0 3GPP2 Evolution Document Describes the 3GPP2 phased evolution of the cdma2000 wireless networks towards the 3G Network Based on Internet Protocol (“All-IP”) The evolution phases described in this document include the following:  Phase 0: Legacy circuit mode wireless network  Phase 1: Includes network support for packet data session handoff plus support for a circuit switched voice call and a packet switched session being active concurrently.  Phase 2: Includes support for independent evolution of bearer and signaling systems. Specifically supports the Legacy MS Domain (LMSD) and the IMS-OMA interoperable VAS.  Phase 3: Full alignment of the cdma2000 VAS subsystem to the OSE (OMA Service Environment) including extension of IP over the radio interface Each evolution phase describes the impacts to the core, access, and radio networks
