What is NCAST Programs and what does the logo mean? NCAST Programs is a self-sustaining program at the University of Washington affiliated with the Department of Family-Child Nursing and the Center on Human Development & Disability which disseminates and develops research-based products and training programs for practitioners and researchers in many disciplines and settings. Explain the meaning of the logo. NCAST Programs original logo was the Child Health Assessment Model. The circles are a reworking of that design, not a renewed CHA Model but just a colorful modern interpretation of the three circles.

NCAST Program’s Mission To give professionals, parents, and other caregivers the knowledge and skills to provide nurturing environments for young children by developing and disseminating innovative research-based products and training programs used in many disciplines and settings.

Learning takes time! Be gentle with yourselves. This will be easier for some and more challenging for others. Establish group “ways of being” to facilitate learning and to support one another.

History of NCAST Dr. Barnard was tasked by the USPHS in the early 70’s to develop a way to predict child health outcomes NCAP (Nursing Child Assessment Project) Team began their work Scales revised for easier use in 1979 and training done via satellite Learners used “inter-rater” reliability Revised again in 1994…essentially unchanged except for clarification of items New 2nd edition manuals in 2013 & 2015 Anyone trained prior to 1994 needs to begin again since reliability was established as “inter-rater” and not with a gold standard. Current research, language, further clarified item intent in 2013 and 2015.
