Class goals: Become familiar with and demonstrate problem solving skills using the scientific process and the engineering process through experiments and STEM activities

Each marking period, teachers will select one student from each of their classes that has changed the most over the marking period. It does not necessarily mean the student who has the best grades in the class. It is a student that is working hard and trying their best to better themselves. – Example: A student who really disorganized at the beginning of the year, but has evolved into a more organized student. – Example: A student who was struggling with a particular topic, but worked real hard to succeed by asking for extra help and maybe they now understand the topic. Students earning this achievement will receive: – A certificate – Recognition on teacher’s website and classroom - Small bag of goodies

Habits of Mind (20%) – involves the extent to which the students adhere to the requirements regarding the tasks assigned to them. These include effort, compliance, behavior, cooperation, participation. Independent Practice – (20%) - assigned so that students can practice, reinforce, elaborate, prepare, and extend their understanding. These include class work and homework. Formative Assessment (20%) - frequent en route checkpoints that provide ongoing and clear feedback to students and teachers. These include “do nows”, quizzes, quick writes, and entrance and exit passes. Summative Assessment (40%) - given to students at the end of the learning to document growth and mastery. These include tests, projects, and performance assessments. These categories provide the instructor with the information about the students’ learning and work habits along the way, in addition to assessing their mastery of the standards.

2 Types of Homework Working Homework – This is the type of homework that the teacher reviews in class the next day. This type of homework cannot be made up. A student will receive a Pass or Fail for homework for the day. Graded Homework – This is the type of homework that the teacher collects and grades. This type of homework can be made up until the day of the unit or chapter assessment. A 15 point deduction will be taken for a late graded assignment.

Final Thoughts… Keep the lines of communication open – is the easiest and quickest way to contact teachers. Make homework time a routine in your home. Talk to your child about their school day. Ask, “What was your favorite part of your day today?” Check your child’s assignment pad daily. Have a Great Night!
