© European Communities, 2011 Purpose Malaysia has decided to strengthen the country’s innovation capacity as the way forward in order to achieve the high income economy targets. Innovation however is easier planned than realized. Therefore, foresight exercise is critical in planning innovation investment. Previous foresight related activities in Malaysia have been limited to forecasting and technology road mapping programs only. The main objectives of the study is to systematically identify Technology Areas for Malaysia in the next 10 years and to prioritized Key Science & Technologies that are crucial for the future of Malaysia. Methodology The methods that we use signify the needs to cater its adoption to Malaysia’s case studies. Therefore the selection and combination of methods are made to ensure the best outcome and participation of stakeholders in Malaysia. This includes but not limited to the following:- The need to educate potential stakeholders on the benefits and potential impact of foresight; To negate the relatively high level of cynicism of the stakeholders; To enable change of thinking and mind set, thinking of the futures rather than today; To inculcate and incorporate discipline and subjectivity. This includes receptiveness towards methods and systematic approaches of foresight; To ensure engagement of diverse and equal distribution of participants; The need to sustain continued interest in the foresight exercises by introducing creative and participatory approaches; Enabling use of multi tools environment (social networking sites; online forum etc.) About myForesight TM myForesight TM is a pioneering national level strategic engagement platform dedicated for foresighting and studies of future possibilities from the economic perspectives to other issues affecting the world and country. If your poster does not have a main subtitle, delete the subtitle mock-up text or its text-box altogether. 3.Poster Main Text and Illustrations Replace the mock-up text of the poster with your own text. Keep it within the boundaries of the two main-text boxes provided. Keep the original font colour (black). Should you need a second colour within your text, use the same one of the poster title (100c 80m 0y 0k). Keep the flush-left justification. Set the main text in MetaPlusBook-Roman and the section headings in MetaPlusBold-Roman, if you own the typefaces. Otherwise, the main text in Arial, Helvetica or Verdana, and the section headings in their respective bold weights. Adjust the font body size and leading to the needs of your own text, depending on its overall length, for optimal display and legibility. Should you need a second level of text, set it in a smaller body size than that of your main text (and, in the case of photo captions, in italics, too). Place your illustrations (pictures, graphs, etc.) within the boundaries of the two main-text boxes. Adjust your text-flow as needed. 4.Contact Box Replace the mock-up contents of the contact box with your own data. Keep the contact box in place if possible. Place it elsewhere only if unavoidable for layout reasons, but in that case try, at least, to align it with some main element of the poster. 5.Additional Logos Should you need to display additional logos (e.g., of partner organizations or universities), reduce or enlarge them to a height within those of the JRC logo and the Directorate or Institute logo. Output To support an effective implementation and management of the National S&T Agenda; there are three level of implementation namely; National S&T Strategies, Technology Areas, and Prioritised Key Technologies. The five (5) National S&T Technologies; 1.Key Industrial Technologies 2.Emerging and Converging Technologies 3.National Issues Related Technologies 4.Global Issues Related Technologies 5.Government Led Technologies The 9 technology areas identified are: 1.Advanced Manufacturing 2.Domestic Security and National Safety 3.Food Security 4.Future Energy 5.Medical & Healthcare 6.Plantation Crops 7.Transportation 8.Water Security 9.Waste Management Five (5) areas were identified as emerging, cross-cutting and converging namely, Biotechnology, Electronics, ICT, Materials Science and Nanotechnology.
