This beach landing on the north coast of France, in Normandy, broke through Hitler’s Atlantic Wall, and meant the beginning of the end of Germany’s control over Europe in WW2. The war would end in Europe less than one year later, in May The Battle of the Bulge. Dec 1944 to Jan Taking place in the Ardennes Forest, this secret German attack was meant to split the Allied Forces, capture Antwerp and destroy several US Armies, resulting in a negotiated end to the war. Allied forces suffered 19,000 casualties. It failed and spelled the end of Nazi Germany by May Victory in Europe Day, May 8 th, Known as V-E Day, this day marked the final victory of Nazi Germany in Europe.
