The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site is located in the Shogawa river valley stretching across the border of Gifu and Toyama prefectures in central Japan. Shirakawa-gō (SHIRAKAWA-GO, "White River Old-District") is located in the village of Shirakawa in Gifu prefecture. The Gokayama (GOKAJOU, "Five Mountains") area is divided between the former villages of Kamitaira and Taira in Nanto, Toyama prefecture.

In Shirakawa-go, you can see the four seasons of Japan- specific overlook! Shirakawa-go is a building livable. It is made in preparation for the heavy snowfall of winter. Originally, it has excellent breathability in heat retention.

In Japanese language, this style of houses are called Gassho-zukuri. Gassho means praying hands, suggesting the form of hands raised in prayer to the buddha. It refers to the triangular shape of the roof.

Accommodation is also available in this village. In Shirakawa-go, normally, you can stay from ¥ 8,000 per adult, it includs breakfast and dinner for one night two days!

The reason why I researched about Shirakawa-go is because I thought it is a great idea to know about the place I have been to. There are many buildings in the world which connected with their own traditions and environments. After researching about Shirakawa-go, I thought it is very important to keep historical buildings and its own traditions and environments to the future.
