Working Model Problem 15-62 Prof. Granda ME-115 Pritpal Singh

Problem 15-62 In engine system shown, L=8 inches (connecting rod), and b = 3 inch ( length of crank). Crank Rotates at 1000 RPM Clockwise. Velocity of Piston? Angular Acceleration of Connecting Rod?

Approach Using Working Model 2D Solve for : Velocity of Piston Angular Velocity of Connecting Rod

Making the 2D model in Working Model Made the crank rod ( using rectangle ) Connected that to back ground using a pin joint. Made the Connecting rod (using rectangle) Connected Connecting rod to crank rod using pin joint. Pin joints

Create a piston using rectangle. Connect it to Connecting rod using Pin Joint. Limited piston motion to vertical axes using vertical slot joint.

Attached a motor to the crank rod. Double click motor to obtain motor property to change motor velocity Motor

Results Y Position of Piston Angular Velocity of Connecting rod (green) @ 60˚ = 36.624 rad/sec Piston Velocity @ 60 = 209.004 in/sec
