Overview Digital Rights Management uDIG data viewer
GeoDRM – intro Geospatial Digital Rights management (GeoDRM) is about how to manage data ownership and rights management. driven by Business models Increasing use of licensed data in government and private sector business processes Introduces need to absolutely verify that distribution/redistribution complies with the legal terms of licensing Web Services transaction environment opens opportunities for geospatial data sharing and commerce, but also opens a “barn door” with respect to management of Digital Rights
GeoDRM – the issues Branding License acknowledgement (click-through licensing) Fine-grained access control (access to data within a given set of extents in time and space) IP rights protection for sensitive or proprietary data Service chaining and cascading Pricing and Ordering
GeoDRM – technical issues Rights expression language Authentication and authorization Uses mainstream web service architecture (SOAP/WSDL) Must be robust Must be transparent to the user Service chaining
GeoDRM – OGC current activites OGC activity coordinated through the GeoDRM working group Very active working group (3 co-chairs!) Abstract rights model Demonstrator (mini IE) Interoperability Experiment Reference model (draft due for Bonn meeting) OWS-3
OWS-3 DRM key use cases “click thru” license, anonymous user “click thru” license, after authentication Service chaining
Results Key results to be demonstrated in OWS-3 demo next month
