VERI is an interface that provides a Web based front end to the access the datasets generated by the MVED. The goal is to Provide open access to the Don Quixote book and enable users to browse and search through the electronic texts and digital images. Enable readers to view the results of the collations performed by the Editor(s) using the MVED tool and compose customized virtual editions according to tehir preferences. Virtual edition Reader’s Interface

Current Implementation involves creation of: Browsing display A simplified search feature Synchronization between image and text Viewing of images in different resolutions by use of Tilepic Ability to view a number of images of different copies simultaneously Compressing images on fly depending on screen resolution to avoid scrolling.

Technology used: Java servlet programming for dynamic generation of HTML pages (Apache Web server and Tomcat used for this purpose) Java Swing Applets for interactive display of images Javascripts for client side programming Interbase is used as the Database server to store information regarding the location of various files etc. Tilepic for generation of tiled data of arbitrary type in a hierarchical, indexed format in order to provide fast retrieval Irfan View to crop, resize and covert images from tiff to gif format Grep utility for a simple searching feature

Shows Information about the particular copy.

Opens the same image in another popup window.

Uses Tilepic to display images in different resolutions.

Right clicking zooms into the image while left clicking zooms out.

Displays image in its actual size.

Compresses image on the fly depending on screen resolution to avoid scrolling. Navigational buttons to display the required image.

Navigational buttons to scroll text to the required page in the chapter

Opens text in another popup window.

Provide an advanced search feature which allows user to enter and hence search for words and phrases with special characters. Integrate the searching feature to the browsing model and highlight searched string in image too. Further integrate the browsing display into a collation model. Enable the users to view the emendations and comments made by the scholars. Provide means of creating customized virtual editions ranging from a simple one copy digital facsimile to critical variorum editions. Future Work
