Drill #2 Find the value of each expression

1-1 Expressions and Formulas Objective: To use the order of operations to evaluate expressions and formulas.

(1.) Order of Operations * 1.Simplify the expressions inside of grouping symbols, such as P arenthesis (), brackets [], braces {}, fraction bars, and absolute values ||. 2. Evaluate all E xponents. 3.Do all Multiplications and D ivisions from left to right. 4.Do all A ddition and S ubtraction from left to right.

Vocab Sheet / Order of Operations ** Write a definition for order of operations on your vocab sheet (in the vocabulary section of your notebook) P.E. MD. AS.

(2.) Order of Operations Example* Evaluate using the order of operations:

Classwork 1-1 Skills Practice # 1 – 8 NOTE: Use drill problem solutions for #1 – 4

Algebraic Expression** An expression that contains at least one variable. Algebraic expressions usually contain operations and constants as well as variables. Examples:

(3.) Algebraic Expressions Example * Evaluate the following expression if y = 4, a = -2, and b = -5

Classwork 1-1 Skills Practice Complete problems # (even)

Homework 1-1 Practice (ALL)
