America, a land of diversity and dream, opened the door to different cultures and people. So it seems that immigrants fit in well with native Americans, sharing love and help together with equal rights. Is that true? Read the following two short parts and sum up the main idea of each part.

Daniel Henry, a famous actor, had a tough childhood growing up as a mixed-race child in a small US town. He fought with other children twice a week because they made fun of his family. His mum is Korean and his father, British- American. Immigrants are often ________ by natives because of their________. Light-skinned immigrants in the United States make more money on average than those with darker skin, a researcher said. _______ makes a great contribution to earning. laughed at background skin-color

America, a land of diversity and dream, opened the door to different cultures and people. So it seems that immigrants fit in well with native Americans, sharing love and help together with equal rights. Is that true? A land of diversity doesn’t mean a land of equality and harmony.

What do we call this phenomenon( 现象 )? Can you think about some measures to help immigrants like Daniel? Tips: what should the government do? what should natives do?

We call this racial discrimination, which is a sensitive, challenging problem rooted deeply in American society. Some measures must be taken to solve this problem since it will bring lots of trouble to the society. Firstly, the US government should establish serious laws to punish those who discriminate against others. Secondly, native Americans should treat others friendly and get rid of some prejudice. With the efforts from all sides, this problem is bound to be solved step by step.

Homework Read the passage again and find out any difficult sentences. Predict the language points and finish the exercises in learning about language.
