[ 1.78 < m K -  +  + < 1.95 GeV/c 2 ]

Signal Yield continued …. m  +  0 [GeV/c 2 ] First observation of D +   +  0 Background from D s +  K + K s, K s  0  0 events, when we miss one  0. D+  +0D+  +0 D+  +0D+  +0 signal yield 189 ± 35 Events / (10 MeV/c 2 ) Background from a missing  0 in the event, parameterized by an exponential function. Signal events are modeled by bifurcated Gaussian functions. Combinatorial backgrounds are modeled by linear functions.

DPF 06, Honolulu, October 31, 2006 Kalanand Mishra, University of Cincinnati 6/22 B(D +   +  0 ) / B (D +  K -  +  + ) = ( 1.33 ± 0.11 (stat) ± 0.09 (sys) ) x B(D +  K +  0 ) / B(D +  K -  +  + ) = ( 2.68 ± 0.50 (stat) ± 0.26 (sys) ) x B(D +   +  0 ) = ( 1.25 ± 0.10 (stat) ± 0.09 (sys) ± 0.04 (ref) ) x using B(D +  K -  +  + ) = ( 9.4 ± 0.3 ) x 10 -2, B(D +  K +  0 ) = ( 2.52 ± 0.47 (stat) ± 0.25 (sys) ± 0.08 (ref) ) x Comparison to the current PDG values : ● ● D +   +  0 world average (2006) B(D +  +  0 ) = (1.28 ± 0.09 ) x ● ● D +  K +  0 world average (2006) B(D +  K +  0 ) < 4.2 x at 90% CL Results and Conclusion This is the first measurement of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D +  K +  0 [ The CLEO-c collaboration recently made a new measurement which is consistent with our result: ]. hep-ex/ B(D +  K +  0 ) = ( 2.25 ± 0.36 (stat) ± 0.15 (sys) ± 0.07 (ref) ) x ]. hep-ex/ Phys.Rev.D74:011107,2006 Excellent kaon ID has contributed significantly to the sensitivity of this measurement. Reconstruct the decay chain: [ D* +  D 0  s +, D 0  h - h +  0,  0  ] and c.c. D *+ D0D0  + soft 00   K - /  - K + /  + 1.Precision measurement of the branching ratios of 3-body Cabibbo- suppressed decays of D 0. 2.To investigate the anomaly in the BR of 2- & 3-body CS decays of D 0. Motivation The charge of the  soft determines the charm content of the D 0 meson (i.e., whether it is D 0 or D 0 ). _

The means and  ’s of the Gaussians are allowed to vary. Combinatorial backgrounds are modeled by linear functions. The shape of K -  +  0 reflection events in the sidebands of  -  +  0 and K - K +  0 is obtained from MC as described on the next slide. K-+0K-+0K-+0K-+0 -+0-+0-+0-+0 K-K+0K-K+0K-K+0K-K+0 Maximum Likelihood fit for signal yield signal yield ± 343 signal yield ± 122 signal yield ± 750 Events / (2.5 MeV/c 2 ) Events / (625 keV/c 2 ) Events / (5 MeV/c 2 ) Removed D 0  K s 0 [  -  + ]  0 events (~0.5 % of the observed number). K -  +  0 reflection events peak in the sidebands of  -  +  0, K - K +  0. A possible  state ~ 800 MeV/c 2 has been conjectured, but this has only been reported in the neutral state. – For the K +  0 and K -  0 S-wave amplitudes, we try three models: I=1/2 K  S-wave Parameterization - - Amplitude obtained from LASS K -  +  K -  + scattering. - - K -  + amplitude extracted from a model-independent partial-wave analysis of D +  K -  +  + decay by the E791 collaboration. - - [ coherent sum of  (800) + uniform NR + K* 0 (1430) ]. Normalized to arbitrary scale for m(K  )>1.1 Gev/c 2 for easy comparison Nucl. Phys. B296, 493 (1988); W. Dunwoodie, web notes. { No evidence in K  elastic scat tering. } Phys. Rev. D73, (2006)

DPF 06, Honolulu, October 31, 2006 Kalanand Mishra, University of Cincinnati 16/22 LASS parameterization for Kπ S-wave Fit Results Fit Results m 2 (K + π 0 ) m 2 (K - π 0 )m 2 (K + K - ) - The best fit is LASS parameterization. - E791 fit worse at low mass. -  model yields mass 870 ± 30 MeV/c 2 mass 870 ± 30 MeV/c 2 width 150 ± 20 MeV/c 2 width 150 ± 20 MeV/c 2 significantly different from the values reported previously for  0. Use the fit model with K  S-wave from E791 for model systematic uncertainty. For K  S-wave These results are preliminary. We are investigating the K  S-wave at lower mass, and contribution of K*(1410).

Excellent agreement between data & model.For S- and P- waves in absence of cross-feeds from other channels (also, assuming negligible contributions from D- and higher waves): Analysis of Angular Moments Analysis of Angular Moments Y01Y01 Y00Y00 Y02Y02 Y04Y04 Y06Y06 Y03Y03 Y05Y05 Y07Y07 BABAR prelim. prelim. Significantly large interference between S and P waves. Higher moments above 1 GeV are coming from cross channels.

DPF 06, Honolulu, October 31, 2006 Kalanand Mishra, University of Cincinnati 18/22 Strong Phase Difference & Amplitude Ratio Strong Phase Difference & Amplitude Ratio The strong phase difference  D and relative amplitude r D between the decays D 0  K* - K + and D 0  K* + K - are defined, neglecting direct CP violation in D 0 decays, by the equation: r D e i  D = [a K* - K + / a K* + K - ] exp[ i(  K* - K + -  K *- K + ) ] We find  D = o ± 2.2 o (stat) ± 0.7 o (exp sys) ± 4.2 o (model sys) r D = 0.64 ± 0.01 (stat) ± 0.01 (exp sys) ± 0.01 (model sys). The previous analysis (E687) of this Dalitz plot was performed with ~ 700 events (vs events in our case). Using Dalitz plot results, we make a precise measurement of the branching ratios of the decays D s +  + and D s +  K*(892) 0 K + integrated over the whole phase space. D54, 4211 (1996) B(D 0  KK  0 )/ B(D 0  KK  0 ) = 0.95 ± 0.26 % Signal yield 151 ± 42 Efficiency 9.2 ± 0.3 % A new cross-check done by the CLEO collaboration shows B(D 0  KK  0 )/ B(D 0  K  0 ) = 2.21 ± 0.14 (stat) %, which is consistent with our measurement.
