Story written by Charlotte Brown Illustrated by Kenneth Wong Published by The NET Section, EDB PPT 4 – Front Cover

It was the first day of school after the summer holiday. The children got up early in the morning, brushed their teeth and got dressed. All of them were ready for school… except for Dave. 1PPT 4

While the other children were brushing their teeth, 2 Dave was sucking his thumb. PPT 4

While the other children were getting ready for school, Dave was running around the house. He was playing hide-and-seek with his mum. 3 PPT 4

While the other children were having their breakfast, 4 Dave was playing a trick on his dad. He took the toilet roll from the bathroom. PPT 4

5 Dave and the other children had one thing in common though. They were all excited about going back to school. As it was getting late, Dave stopped playing and got ready for school. PPT 4

In the 3A classroom, Dave and his classmates chatted about what they did in their summer holidays. They also guessed who their class teacher would be this year. 6PPT 4

When Miss Perry walked into the classroom, the children jumped up and down with excitement. They liked her. “Welcome back, children!” said Miss Perry. “Let’s talk about the Primary Three Buddy Programme.” 7PPT 4

“Some of you can be Big Buddies and help the Little Buddies in Primary One.” “We want to be Big Buddies!” shouted the children. “Read this poster to learn more about it,” said Miss Perry. 8PPT 4

Since then, Dave has changed. He listened to the teacher in class and he always finished his tasks. He helped to keep the classroom clean. Dave got along well with his classmates and he did not play tricks on others anymore. 11PPT 4

At recess, Dave helped the junior students with their homework. He read stories and shared his things with them. Everybody liked Dave and they all wanted to make friends with him. 12PPT 4

One week has passed and Miss Perry still had not invited Dave to an interview. He waited and waited. Then one day, Miss Perry said to Dave, “This is your application form, Dave. I am returning it to you…” Dave lowered his eyes. He did not know where to look. 13PPT 4

“Take a look at it, Dave!” suggested Miss Perry. On the form, Dave read the words “Application APPROVED”! “Congratulations, Dave. You worked hard to become a Big Buddy.” said Miss Perry. Dave screamed, “Hooray! I can be a Big Buddy and my Little Buddy is… Winnie in P.1A!” 14PPT 4
