Life As A Library Science Student (Pt.1) By: Dionna Lewis

The Circulation Desk At the circulation desk, my duties are to check books in and out, and make sure it’s done properly. I also collect money for book and printing fees. When my assistance is needed, I log on to Opac and look-up reference materials for other students.

Pick-Ups & Deliveries After I check the calendar for any checked out materials, it’s my job to pick-up any equipment checked out by teachers. I deliver books supplies and several different types of equipment to classes. Also, delivering messages to teachers for Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Poole pertaining to library reservations is almost an everyday chore.

Shelving Books & Shelving Assignments While shelving books, you are to put up books that belong to your very own shelving area. It’s very important that you have your own shelving area, so that you can make sure that it remains clean and in order.

Cleaning When cleaning the media center, our duties are to make sure the floor is clear of trash of any kind, we have the option of sweeping or vacuuming. We also, make sure to dust and wipe down the shelves and, make sure the tables are clean and the chairs are tucked nicely under their tables. In order to maintain, and ensure a better appearance, we cut the dead leaves off of any plants and flowers.

Interacting With Others One of the joys of being a Library Science Student is that you get the privilege of interacting first- hand with students and teachers. It is our duty to help everyone enjoy their time in the library and make sure they find whatever piece of equipment or reference material that is available.

Media-Mamas Working in the library isn’t all about BOOKS! You’re able to develop personal relationships with the librarians, which are: Mrs. Cole, Mrs. Poole and the Librarian Assistant Tanisha Spencer.

Life As A Library Science Student (Pt. 2) Working in the library as a student has truly been the experience of my life because coming into it, I had no idea about what to expect from everyone. It is GREAT getting to become a Library Science Student, I would highly recommend it for anyone!
