Warm-up Write the following text in your journal. Be ready to recite it with the class. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness – That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.

Celebrate Freedom Week Declaration Collage

Objective I will identify the influence of ideas from historic documents by rewriting the text in your own words and creating a collage of the Declaration of Independence.

Activity Using the text from the Declaration of Independence that you wrote in your journal, rewrite the Declaration in your own words. It must: Be in paragraph format. 7 th grade vocabulary. You cannot use the same phrases from the Declaration. You may use your Chrome Book to use a thesaurus and dictionary.

1 st Period Declaration Rewrite Americans believe that the following statements are unmistakably correct, that all people are treated the same as other, that a higher power has blessed you with rights that cannot be taken away, that these rights include your existence, freedom, and we have the right to go after things that make us happy, that to protect these rights, the people that run our government are voted by the people, the government gets their power from the citizens.

2 nd Period Declaration Rewrite The citizens of the United States believe the laws to be obvious, that everyone is treated equally and fairly, that the laws and rights are blessed by your beliefs with individual power, this includes existence, freedom, and the right to live life the way you want, to make sure people follow these laws and have these rights, our leaders and politicians are established by us, getting their power and being allowed to have power from us.

4 th Period Declaration Rewrite The citizens of America believe the following to be clear, that all people are constructed equivalent, they are blessed by their producer or maker with assured built in rights, with this freedom is the ability to live, choose, and find pleasure, to protect this freedoms the citizens elect the government, then the government does what the people want them to do.

5 th Period Declaration Rewrite Americans grip these fact to be unquestionable, that every person is conceived identical, that they are equipped by their designer with positive essential rights, the rights include being, independence, and seeking of bliss, to protect these benefits, laws are given to the people, acquiring their capabilities from the approval of the people.

6 th Period Declaration Rewrite American citizens have rights that they can be trusted with and are clear, that all people are created the same, we are equipped by our maker with specific fundamental rights, and with these include well being, choice, and the seeking of joy, to make sure these rights are protected a government will be appointed among the people, getting their power and approval from the people of society.

7 th Period Declaration Rewrite The American citizens keep these promises of our rights to be undeniable, that all citizens remain the same, people are blessed by their originator with assured fundamental rights, and with that comes breathe, choice, and quest of joy, to defend these rights, the leaders are chosen by the citizens, the government acquires these abilities and gifts from the people.

Activity Using the Declaration of Independence, you will make a collage. Find Pictures that represent the phrases: Newspapers Magazines Draw your own pictures You must be able to explain how the pictures represent the phrase! Glue those pictures on manila paper and write the sentence the picture represents.
