Content Terminology Introduction SimBusPro Portal The SimBusPro Benefits Usage of SimBusPro via Sample Case Study Sustainability of Project References

Terminology Business Process: “A set of related, structured activities or tasks to produce a specific service or product or serve a particular goal for a particular client or clients.” 3 tasks

Terminology BPMN is a business process modeling standard that allows users to define their own complex business processes as charts and gives clear understanding for all; – technical developers – business analysts – managers BPMN is mostly graphical notation only for describing business processes. BPMN 2.0 (Business Process Model and Notation):

Terminology Example: Business Process for Serving a Customer in A Restaurant Process Steps: 1.Customer arrives at restaurant and is greeted by server. 2.Customer asks for specials. 3.Server reviews specials list. 4.Server provide specials. 5.Customer orders food. 6.Customer awaits order. 7.Server enters order. 8.Server awaits next customer.

Terminology Example: Business Process Model for Travel Booking

Introduction SimBusPro is a commercial gateway to optimize business processes using simulation on a DCI. The major challenge can be stated as follows: It is a hard and time consuming problem to improve the processes manually when the specified processes are complicated with too many nodes. Simulation based optimization is one of the approaches to improve a given process with some performance indicators such as costs and time.

SimBusPro Portal is a web portal to simulate both individual and multiple BPMN business process models. Portal currently uses Local Desktop Grid in company network as DCI. Until now ~ 5000 jobs are sent to portal by 10 users. As of now, SimBusPro can only simulate output of Bonita Open Solution. SimBusPro Portal

The SimBusPro Benefits Portal provides; 1. Simulation of complex business process models with massive computer power by using SCI-BUS framework.

The SimBusPro Benefits 2. Producing alternative business process models based on user defined parameters. User defined parameters are based on minimum, maximum and range interval parameters of simulation properties.

3.Visual reports for both comparison between all business processes simulations of a model group and evaluation of the business process effectiveness. Sample Report: The SimBusPro Benefits

4.Personalized environment for users to simulate their own business process models and work on them any time. The SimBusPro Benefits

5.Since SimBusPro works on web portal, user can access and use it where there is an internet connection and basic computer. 6.Financial and Time Benefits: Simulation without SimBusPro portal – Time consuming – Costly business Simulation with SimBusPro Portal – Simulation and analysis time can be reduced – Reduced simulation time will decrease costs The SimBusPro Benefits

Usage of SimBusPro on A Case Study Working principle of SimBusPro :

The main objective of modeling and simulation of a cement factory is to reduce production times and increase process effectiveness by eliminating bottlenecks and low efficient tasks. That helps factory to detect redundant tasks and needed resources as worker, machinery etc. at the best level. By using SimBusPro portal we could simulate models of factory production processes with various parameters simultaneously and analyze simulation result reports then choose the best situation for our process. Applying those simulation results to real environment will increase the profit. A Cement Factory

Cement Factory Business Process Model: A Cement Factory

1.User imports pre-modeled Business Process Model to the portal. A Cement Factory

2.Produces multiple business process model alternatives easily by adjusting model parameters (cost, raw material amount, resource amount..). Then the user submits all produced models and portal sends them to the simulation engine. A Cement Factory

3.Finally, portal simulates all business process models. The produced models can be observed in detailed list. A Cement Factory

Details of simulation models’ list. A Cement Factory

4.User then analyses the visual reports of the simulation results – Total produced cement is the same for different parameters A Cement Factory

Total production times are changed for every parameter level because of various resource numbers. According to the report, the best process instance with lowest production time is cement production 8. A Cement Factory

Sustainability of the Project Some of the processes we optimized are; – Modeling and Optimizing Cement Production of A Cement Factory Simsoft modeled production processes of a cement factory and analyzed it based on the efficiency. – Modeling and Optimizing of Transportation Routes This project was performed in cooperation with Bilkent University. University project team analyzed worker transportation bus routes of a firm and built a simulation model by considering the density of the city traffic. Simsoft Computer Technologies supervised and supported the project team by using its past experiences.

Sustainability of the Project Possible future processes to optimize are; – production processes of metal casting plant Simsoft will analyze, model and simulate specific part of casting plant production processes and enhance them on process simulation model. – Business Processes of The Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Processes of A Tractor Factory – Processes of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation TRT’s department of education’s business processes will be analyzed, modeled and simulated

Process Optimization Student Contest – We plan to organize a student contest among the university students of Turkey in academic term. – Objective: to improve a given business process based on certain parameters using SimBusPro.
