What is an indirect object?

An indirect object identifies to, for whom or what the action of the verb performed is.

One way to look at it...

An indirect object is like a birthday kid. I'm the indirect object It is the receiver of the direct object much like a birthday kid receives the birthday gift.

In this case, the birthday gift is the direct object.
