University’s Network Average download speeds: kbps or Mbps Average upload speeds: 5504 kbps or Mbps Telephone Line-56 kbps Coaxial Cable Mbps Unshielded twisted pair – 100 Mbps Optical fiber cable- 40 Gbps or more Satellite- 40 Gbps or more

Home Network Download speed: 5463 Kbps or Mbps Upload speed: 5336 Kbps or Mbps Compared to the speeds on figure 6-11 on page 200 Telephone Line-56 kbps Coaxial Cable Mbps Unshielded twisted pair – 100 Mbps Optical fiber cable- 40 Gbps or more Satellite- 40 Gbps or more The home network we tested is a coaxial cable and we are getting the performance that we are paying for.

Vermont Network (another state) Average Download Speeds: 48 Kbps Average Upload speeds: 32 Kbps The person who lives in Vermont only has a dial up network and gets a significantly lower average then someone who has a coaxial cable connection.

Comparison By comparing the results from all three tests the closer you are to a dense populated area like a city, the more readily available a high speed internet connection is. The further away from a densely populated area the less likely it is that a high speed internet connection is available.
