Engineering Operations Outage Schedule Center Stack casing is scheduled to go back in the vessel today Complete NB armor, Diagnostic calibrations, clean/photo/close, install NB Duct by early next week Pump-down before Christmas Bake-out and leak check in January Install TF and OH, Flex bus, and machine connections in February Machine scrubs complete 1st week in March

Engineering Operations Outage Activities TF Joint flag box assembly is in progress with upgrades to flag insulation, epoxy potting techniques, and the type of resin used. Extensive testing completed using plexiglass replicas and prototype assemblies In-vessel activities associated with the new high-K scattering diagnostic are nearing completion. Ex-vessel work will continue throughout the FY Welding of the new bellows to the NB duct has been completed and leak checked. Beam scrapers are being installed today. The new PF1A lower coil is complete and installed. The fabrication of the upper coil started this week.

Engineering Operations Outage Activities (con’t) Installation of all 6 RWM error field coils are complete and tested. The SPA to power these coils is on site and being installed in the FCPC building. Trying to complete installations in January, controls in February, and power testing in March. Support XP’s in April? Three new Rogowski Coils have been fabricated and two will be installed on the machine in January. Ports for a new gas feed and an ECH preionization point have been provided on the lower dome to support CHI experiments. Electrical tests have been completed on individual insulators for 2kV CHI operations.

Engineering Operations Outage Activities (con’t) The SGI port was enlarges at Bay I and a new EBW viewing window has been installed at by Bay G. Three new divertor ports have been prepared for the moveable GDC probes, and the fixed GDC probes have been relocated. New air cooled PF1A and OH buswork will be designed and installed.

Engineering Operations MG Weld Repairs and Start-Up Small weld cracks detected on the rotor of MG#1 were monitored last run and found to be growing. Subsequent inspections of MG#2 (not used) revealed similar but less severe cracking. An extensive engineering analysis by GE has been completed, and a procedure developed to lift (unload) the rotor to restore the welds. Negotiations between PPPL and GE in progress to have GE make the repairs (~ 4 weeks, then rebalance the set) MG#2 will be restored to service to support NSTX operations if needed. Maintenance of the exciter and cycloconvertor circuitry is in progress, and mechanical maintenance of the rotor, stator, and the lower guide bearing will be done in January.
