River Otter The animal I researched was the river otter . River otter’s are mammals . They live in the woodlands of New York State .

Physical attributes River otters have unique features . They have webbed feet .River otters also have thick, brown fur. There thick, brown fur keeps them warm . They also have a long tail .

Habitat and shelter River otters spend most of there days in the water . One of the shelters is a marsh . A marsh is a wet low land . They also live sometimes in dens .

Diet And Predators River otters like to eat many things . Most of the river otter’s diet is found in the water. Animals they eat from the water are fish , frogs, crayfish and crabs . On occasion river otters will eat mice, birds and eggs. River otters like to eat but there are some predators that like to eat them . For example bald eagles are a predator to river otters. Some other animals that are predators to a river otter is bears , coyotes and foxes . We are predators to the river otter also !

Interesting Facts ! River otters have a lot of interesting facts. One of them is when they get alarmed river otters spray a musk . But this musk that they spray isn’t as stinky as the skunks. They also can swim under the water up to 5 minutes ! The river otter’s long tail helps them to swim . Also river otter’s fur traps air and then helps them to float. River otters use there whiskers to help find food. The adult river otters are 3-5 feet long. The mother river otters give birth to in between one and six pups. Pups stay with there mother for about one year. Another interesting fact is that they live in the wild between 8 to 12 years. That’s a long time ! The last interesting fact I have for you is that river otters on occasion they share dens with a beaver.

CONCLUSION In conclusion river otters are one amazing animal. Since they live in New York State , it wouldn’t be surprising if you ever saw one. So keep your eye out , but also keep a distance away or a river otter might spray musk at you. So you should never touch them!
