Presentation transcript:

Antarctica  Antarctica is Earth’s southernmost continent, below the South Pole. It is located in the Antarctic region of the southern hemisphere, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean.

BRRRRRRRRRRR…….  Antarctica is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, and has the highest elevation of all the continents. Antarctica is considered a desert, with annual rain and snowfall of 8 inches along the coast and far less inland.

Sunset over Antarctica… The Crystal Desert

Nobody’s Home! There are no permanent human residents, but anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 people stay throughout the year at the research stations scattered across the continent.

Only cold-adapted plants and animals survive there, including penguins and seals.

Neutral Territory!!!  Antarctica does not belong to any country.  43 Separate Countries have agreed not to treat Antarctica as their own.  They must share any scientific discoveries made in Antarctica with one another.

Pollution is Killing Antarctica  Harmful gasses created by humans are causing great danger to Antarctica. Factories, cars and other machines are causing lots of devastation in Antarctica and the rest of the world.

Trash left in the ocean by fishing boats and ships causes lots of danger for Antarctic wildlife.

Conclusion  It is our job to decide now to help protect the great continent of Antarctica for everyone’s sake.  I hope that someday I can be a scientist and visit Antarctica to make great discoveries.

Thank You! Until then… I hope you enjoyed my choice work presentation on Antarctica!
