Willie Mays By Bianca Rhodes

Willie Mays The famous Alabamian I'm going to tell you about is Willie Mays,the great baseball player.By the time you have finished reading my report you will know a little about his childhood and how his baseball career got started. You will also know about his years after he retired.

Willie was born on May 6,1931 in Westfield, Alabama. When Willie was in high school he was the quarterback on the football team.He was offered many different scholarships to college to play football and basketball, but he turned both down.

Willie Mays career started with a Tennessee team called the Chattanooga Choo Choos. Later on he decide to play for the Black Barons. In 1950 Willie signed with the New York Giants. That is where Willie got his nickname,the “Say Hey Kid”. Willie quit baseball in 1952,but only for a short while to join the army.He returned to the New York Giants in Later on Willie was traded to the New York Mets.

Willie retired after the 1973 season. After he retired from playing baseball he decided to coach the New York Mets Willie retired from coaching baseball and coaching he appeared in many different tv shows and in movies. Now Mr. Mays is currently living in California.
