Mission Statement “Linking mothers and fathers to their babies through a safe and time- efficient manner.” Objectives: Reduce the risk/amount of newborn mix- ups. Allow for only specific/registered people to obtain the newborn.

Outline of Our Security Plan Our security plan consists of an anklet that is a fingerprint scanner as well as a tracking device. It will be attached to the newborn at the moment of birth registered with the mother’s, father’s, and nurse’s fingerprints. The tracking device will be used only if the baby was to leave the hospital without proper approval from a registered person. The anklet can only be removed with the use of the mother’s fingerprint at the time of discharge.

The Science Behind it All The scanner reads the ridges and the furrows of the registered fingerprints and allows access to the baby if/when it is recognized.

Can this system be “beaten”??? This system could be beaten if a gelatin mold was made of a registered fingerprint. Although this system could be beaten this way, it would be very difficult to reach the registered personnel due to the amount of health care providers and security located around the hospital.

Accuracy and Limitations The fingerprint scanner is 95-98% accurate in recognizing the registered fingerprints. Limitations: The scanner may take longer than wanted to approve a fingerprint In case of emergency, only registered fingerprints have access to the newborn leading to limitations on who can provide health care.

Success Story It all started one rainy afternoon when Sue McDonald wanted to show her baby to her family. Sue and Ronald went to the nursery to get Donald, their new born baby. DONALD WASN’T THERE! The chase was on. With the new technology created by Baby Biometrics, the nurses and police were able to trace the baby and the suspect. Baby Donald was returned safely to his parents thanks to Baby Biometrics.

Issues of Privacy This form of biometrics would be an optional process of protection. Not all parents may want to provide their fingerprint for this type of system. But, some would greatly appreciate this form of security and would be willing to provide the items needed to use it.
