THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION VIVE LA RESISTANCE! WAIT WRONG REVOLUTION. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.

By 1770 due to distance, England had little control over the colonies. England provided: Defense Money and Credit Common Market on Trade COLONIES WERE SELF-GOVERNING THE BRITISH RESTRICTIONS

NAVIGATION ACTS Began 1651 Restriction on Colonial Trade Could only buy and sell with England England kept raising taxes on certain goods knowing that the colonies would have to buy from them. THIS MADE PEOPLE VERY MAD!

STAMP ACT British Parliament passes the first law that helps England, but not the colonists. Official Stamps were required for all legal documents Amounting to 10 pounds in America, and only 2 in Britain.

STAMP ACT CONGRESS Delegates were sent to NYC Prepared the Declaration of Right and Grievances England repealed the act BUT….

LEVIED OTHER TAXES Paint Lead Glass AND YES, THE OH SO IMPORTANT TEA. HOW WILL THE COLONIST’S HAVE TEA TIME?

NOW WHY DID BRITAIN DO THAT? They wanted the colonies to be under their control. They realized that they were becoming less and less dependant on British goods, and that would mean a loss of trade and taxes. Possibly they foresaw the future?

BOYCOTT ENGLAND Poor guys thought that would help… Instead 5 guys were killed BOSTON MASSACRE Started mass editorials demanding a trial of the captain.

BOSTON TEA PARTY! Hey guys, I have an idea, let’s go throw all this tea in a river, the Brits will be really mad about that, but we’ll dress as Indians. So they think the Indians did it AH! A PROTEST….

INTOLERABLE ACTS Massachusetts Government Act Replaced all elected government with appointed officials from England. Forbade assembly Murder Act (Justice Act) Replaced all judges with appointed judges Requiring trials occur outside the colony Bail

INTOLERABLE ACTS BOSTON PORT ACT Blocked the Port, No trade The Quartering Act Colonists had to quarter or house soldiers staying in the colony

THE FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS Delegates from all colonies ( except GA) Petitioned the King Boycotted British trade Set-up Spy Commissions
